Kristen Matthews has an endless curiosity of people and the body. Her passion for movement began the first time she put on ballet slippers, continued through years as a gymnast and diver, and led her to a career in fitness.
After graduating from the University of Vermont Kristen moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and began taking Pilates as a way to find relief from her own back injuries.
Encouraged by her progress, Kristen wanted to share Pilates with others. She earned her teaching certification from renowned Power Pilates in New York City in 2003 where she studied under celebrated Bob Liekens and Susan Moran.
Pilates was the jump-start to Kristen’s career in the fitness industry. With the desire to add on to her skills, she completed a 200-hour yoga certification with YogaPoser, as well as The Booty Barre training with Tracey Mallett. Kristen was also one of the first teacher trainers for the Pilates comprehensive training program at Equinox.
Kristen’s knowledge coupled with her patience and dedication makes her a highly sought after instructor. Whether she is teaching a class or a private, Kristen is known for balancing her cheerful encouragement with butt-kicking workouts, all the while keeping it fun. On a daily basis Kristen is inspired by the changes she see’s in front of her as she watches people build strength and make health a priority.
When Kristen is not teaching, you can find her working on The Pilates Fix, a quickly growing YouTube channel she co-founded. She also contributes to health and wellness sites like MindBodyGreen.com and Pravassa.com, and has appeared in Pilates Style magazine and on their site as well.
