About Kristen

Kristen Matthews has explored her passion for movement through many years of gymnastics, diving, and dance. Her discovery of Pilates and her decision to become an instructor was a natural progression of her physical pursuits. After graduating from the University of Vermont, Kristen moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and began taking Pilates as a way to find relief from her own back injuries.

Encouraged by her progress, Kristen wanted to share Pilates with others. She earned her teaching certification from renowned Power Pilates in New York City in 2003 where she studied under celebrated co-director Bob Liekens and co-owner Susan Moran.

Kristen teaches Pilates experts and novices alike, having trained teens, athletes like Brian Wilson of the world champion San Francisco Giants, dancers, the elderly, celebrities, and one of the past winners of the Survivor series.  Kristen continues to expand her knowledge of the body as she believes the real learning begins once you’re certified.  Along with taking workshops, Kristen has studied anatomy with Irene Dowd, Thai massage in Thailand, completed a Yoga Alliance 200-hour certification with Yogaposer in the spring of 2010, is one of the southern California teacher trainers for the Equinox Pilates teacher training program, and most recently completed the Booty Barre training with Tracey Mallett.
